After realising that they're the only same-sex couple at an open house, two women express their fears of standing out through song.
Whatever They Say is a 6-minute musical short, co-written by Alice and her writing partner Erica Belton, with music by Alice. It's produced by Christien Bart-Gittens, whose previous shorts screened and won at BAFTA-qualifying festivals and were distributed in the US and EU. It was directed by Erica, with cinematography by award-winning DoP James Stittle, and starring Jordan Stamatiadis and Cabaret cast-member Laura Delany.
The film was shot in Suffolk in June 2022 and started its festival run in 2023.
It's a joyful yet heartfelt take on the different shades of the modern LGBTQ+ experience: can queer people ever not stand out as such? Is standing out such a bad thing? The answer is obviously not an easy one...
